JAYDEN THOMAS DISCOVERING THE WORLD THROUGH FOOTBALL

Football can take a young person far beyond the boundaries of the playing field. For Jayden "Bobby" Thomas, the game has opened the door to an international experience—representing Dominica at the inaugural FIFA U-15 World Cup & Festival 2026 in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Jayden plays youth football with Portsmouth Bombers U-15 and also represents Northside FC in the DFA First Division Tier 1. His selection among Dominica's 14 young footballers now gives him an opportunity to explore a different part of the world while doing something he loves.
Travelling to Azerbaijan means encountering a new culture, hearing different languages and meeting young people whose lives may be very different from his own. Football provides their common ground. Through the game, players from different countries can connect, build friendships and learn from one another.
For Jayden, the learning will extend beyond matches and training sessions. Being part of a travelling national team brings responsibilities: managing time, following instructions, adapting to unfamiliar surroundings and contributing to the group. These experiences can help a young person develop independence, confidence and respect for others.
On the field, international competition offers another kind of discovery. Facing unfamiliar opponents creates opportunities to understand different styles of play, make decisions under pressure and identify areas to improve. The tournament's eight-a-side format, with two 20-minute halves, is designed to support that development through competitive experience.
Dominica will begin its campaign against Malaysia on Saturday, October 24, with Hungary, Mexico, Ethiopia and Syria also in Group H. For Jayden and his teammates, each fixture offers a chance to learn while proudly wearing the national colours.

Joining Jayden in the national squad is fellow Portsmouth Bombers U-15 player Edrick Augustine, who also represents BAA Sharks in the DFA First Division Tier 2. Their participation highlights how experiences across youth and divisional football can contribute to a young player's development.
Jayden's selection carries meaning for the young footballers training alongside him. A teammate travelling across the world to represent Dominica makes the opportunities within sport feel closer and more achievable. It gives them another reason to approach training with purpose and remain open to where their efforts might lead.
That is why investment in youth sport matters. Access to coaching, regular competition and encouragement can help young people discover their abilities and widen their ambitions. The benefits reach into education, friendships and the confidence to step into unfamiliar situations.
Portsmouth Bombers FC congratulates Jayden and Edrick on their selection and extends its support to every player and official representing Dominica.
As Jayden steps into this new experience, he carries the encouragement of his family, teammates and the clubs he represents. The hope is that he returns with stronger football skills, new friendships and stories that inspire others to see how much of the world sport can help them discover.
For Jayden "Bobby" Thomas, football has opened a door to the world.
