Portsmouth Academy and Bombers FC U16 Girls Shine at DFA Development League Festival

The Portsmouth Academy, under the leadership of Head Coach Andy Burkard, in collaboration with Bombers Football Club, proudly participated in the DFA U16 Girls' Development League Festival held on Saturday, 25 July 2026, at the DFA Technical Centre in Stockfarm.

The festival brought together young female footballers from across Dominica, providing another valuable opportunity to develop the women's game while allowing players to showcase their growing talent in a fun and competitive environment.

For the Portsmouth Academy and Bombers FC girls, it was a memorable day of football and learning. The team played four matches, finishing with an impressive record of two victories, one draw, and one defeat. Beyond the results, the day was defined by the enthusiasm, determination, and enjoyment displayed by the players.

The smiles and excitement on the faces of the young athletes reflected the positive impact of the festival, while parents, family members, and supporters created an encouraging atmosphere from the sidelines. The team was led by Head Coach Chris Roserens, with assistance from Lamon Irish, who recently completed the Dominica Football Association (DFA) D Licence Coaching Course. His involvement highlighted the importance of investing in coach education while simultaneously strengthening the club's capacity to provide quality player development.

The timing of Lamon Irish's qualification could not have been better. As Portsmouth Academy and Bombers FC continue expanding opportunities for young female footballers, having another qualified coach within the programme strengthens its ability to deliver structured, high-quality training and mentorship.
